Solomon "Solly" Malope was a South African Postwar & Contemporary artist who was born in 1953 in Atteridgeville, Gauteng. His signature style consists of smooth pastel portraits of black men and (mostly) women in traditional South African attire from the country's various cultures, engaged in joyful and peaceful activities.

 

"Solly Malope's work has been offered at auction multiple times, with realized prices ranging from 12 USD to 483 USD, depending on the size and medium of the artwork. Since 2015 the record price for this artist at auction is 483 USD for FRUIT SELLER, sold at Stephan Welz & Co., Cape Town in 2015."
